Cronulla Beach and Cronulla Park
The Cook Community Classic is a great Sutherland Shire event that helps us appreciate, support and value the generosity of our local community.
The Classic consists of a combined community event held each year in November. This year the event will be held at Cronulla Beach and the adjacent Cronulla Park.
It combines a competitive surf carnival between our four Bate Bay Surf clubs, an open ocean swim and a community carnival in the surrounding park areas. The carnival includes entertainment, live music, local celebrities and community stalls featuring the participating event sponsors and community organisations.
This year, in addition to the very successful community open water swim there will also be a beach football event with participating local clubs.
The Cook Community Classic also runs a major community raffle, website, and for the third time a gala ball sponsored by the Rotary Club of Caringbah which will showcase the event as well as raising funds for Shire charities.
Through these activities the Classic provides a fundraising platform for our local Shire community groups - including sports clubs, local charities, school P&Cs and other community organisations - without them having to attract sponsors, arrange prizes, organise events and generate publicity of their own. This is especially important for smaller organisations which do not have the capacity to undertake these tasks.
The Classic is all about trying to make the most of the efforts of our community organisations.
The Classic is an event created in the best spirit of the Sutherland Shire community, building on the great Shire traditions of sporting excellence and the desire to help one’s neighbours.
Harnessing the spirit and generosity of the people of the Sutherland Shire, the Classic aims to not only showcase great competition on the water but also raise money for worthy local causes.
I am proud to be patron of the 2011 Cook Community Classic and thank everyone who has been instrumental in making this event possible.
Please don’t forget to purchase a ticket to the Classic charity raffle which will help support our local community while offering you the chance to win great prizes.
